Do you remember, back in the day when there was Cat5?
I'm talking about Cat5, not Cat5e.....and we would make the decision for the IT guy and the financial director that a move to Cat5e would be a good long term value for money move?
By my reckoning, if you can remember this, that would have been approx. 20 years ago......not bad value from us guys who specified those cables as a ' this should do you for most scenarios' approach.
These days a cable has to do a whole lot more. It has to carry power over Ethernet for VOIP and WiFi, it has to be capable of performing up to HDBase-T for 4K AV, at the same time as high speed data transmission, 1Gbit, and 10Gbit*
So how many cable types should you buy for all these applications?
Well less than you may think actually.
POE devices love a fatter piece of copper to lessen voltage drop, so lets start with a 23awg gauge option.
How about a cable that can pass 10Gbase-T* testing to allow some headroom when using it for AV, so lets give it 500Mhz to play with.
What about those horrid acrid smoke tragedies we often hear about, so lets give it a Low Smoke Zero Halogen jacket the wear.
What level is this wonderful ' do it all cable' cat8? ........no, cat7 ..........no, cat6A .........no
A mere Cat6 U/UTP is capable of all this.
Ah ....I bet that stuff is a fortune?
No....absolutely not, it's been coming down in price for a while now, and is now the next ' we have done all the thinking for the IT guys' cable to install, that is likely to last as long as good old Cat5e did.
So here comes the sales pitch, you can go seek out these cables and match them with high end modules, jacks and fit them to suitable patching and faceplates, or.......you can let us supply you with our Brand as we have done all the matching for you.
'BridgeNet' cable
Cat6 - 23awg - 500Mhz - LSZH - Tested to TIA/ TSB155 10Gbit standards at lengths up to 55 mtrs*.
Matched to tool-less keystone high performance jacks
Matched to product researched - 24way keystone patch panels with discreet branding
Eurostyle and LJ6 style modules for outlet ends - no branding
We use this for our own installations as we believe that we can afford to give the client ' something for nothing' and that something is our experience of over thirty years in the industry, using all sorts of products, for all sorts of applications. Most clients just want to know it will work, when they plug in the end device........so that's what we aim to provide.
Currently, we are not a reseller of these products, but if we receive enough interest, we may look into doing just that, so please feel free to leave you feedback....it'd be very much taken seriously, and appreciated!
