Modern CCTV systems have consistently become cheaper with higher definition cameras.

Over the last five years, prices have reduced on many of these cameras, and also the NVR  ( network video recorder) pricing is now very sharp. So surely the highest definition is the best option right?

Well....yes and no.
A high definition camera that is recording 24/7 will soon eat up storage space, so better to set up the system with movement activated settings to make the most of the storage.
We can supply the whole system including the cabling, using external grade cables, the cabinet where the hardware will be sited, and set up and maintain your new system.
5 year warranties are available on all hardware and 25 warranty on installed cabling infrastructure.

Here at Bridge we are always looking at the industry and how we can bring a bit of added value to our clients through knowledge.

So here is our first product :- a Cat6 right angle patch panel  - Branded with Bridge Networks Ltd

Why is it giving the client added value?    We have put this together with what we consider to be a ' will suit most applications cable and outlet modules' so that you can rest assured if you would like to use your SCS for the following it will be up to the task.

WiFi - POE
VOIP - POE
IP - CCTV - POE
HDTV
HDbase-T
1Gbit data to each desk
Voice
HDMI over ethernet
IP lighting control
DATA Centre links - 1Gbit
Harness links - panel to panel

We will use the appropriate module for the application and indeed the appropriate patch panel, as we also have keystone panels coming out soon to allow high speed modules to be used.

The cable - BridgeNet is not your average cat6 U/UTP.....those of you who have a sharp eye will notice awg written on the side of the cable or box that the cable comes in....this in our opinion should be 23 awg and is a thicker cable than 24 awg. How is that so you ask....well awg stands for American Wire Gauge and is a notification as to how many times the cable has been pulled at a certain load to make the cable thinner than when it was first smelted, the more times it gets pulled the thinner it gets, hence 24 awg is thinner than 23 awg,,,,so why do we recommend 23 awg?   Low Smoke Zero Halogen as standard - Violet.

Well we have noticed that POE ( power over ethernet) devices are springing up everywhere, so why not give them a better chance of getting more current at distance than a ' just compliant' cable, thus eliminating call-backs?

Our patching panels are compliance standard cat6 U/UTP to 250 Mhz, team that up with a cable that is tested to 500Mhz and  use cat6a U/UTP keystone modules at the outlet end, and you are likely to achieve higher than compliance standards, and therefore again, you will be less likely to be calling us for that niggling problem.

All our cabling projects are closely monitored for quality installation ' best practice' methods, and will include cable sock as standard.

Patching leads are snagless LSZH 24 awg.  Solid core upon request.

A solution that will ' suit most if not all applications '

We can of course supply and install data cabinets, enclosed cabinets, comms, server and also open frames with overhead ladder rack. With a recent move to lighter coloured enclosures in the industry we are now supplying and installing RAL 7035 light grey as standard.

All test results given - Tester Psiber WireXpert4500

It always amazes me this industry......we have been installing data cabling for decades and I can count on one hand how many times we have been called out to fix a problem on our installed cabling.

There are many vendor training courses out there to makes sure that ' compliance ' to standards are kept up. And some training has to be taken in order to obtain a better price and to bevome competetive when quoting on brand specified tenders., so when I come across workmanship like the below picture, that is definately not to installation ' best practice methodology' I just have to ask myself....who is checking the installs?  The brand supplier, the standards committees' , the site foreman?

Should we introduce 'photo evidence' for each project as a check that companies are actually complying to what they have 'apparently' been trained to do?

Check out this Brand Rex project that is surely non-compliant with the pairs nearly touching each other......

We have had a great start to the year already with a flurry of new clients coming to us to get quotations for Fibre installation works, and copper upgrades.

So we thought that you might like to know what else we can offer you these days as we have added more services over the last few years that, perhaps you were not aware of.

  • Fibre – We have long been involved with fibre optic installations going back as far as 1996, but did you know that we can fix broken fibres with our fusion splicer?                                       Also with recent changes to fibre standard coming into force, is your network up to 10Gbase FX standards? OM3 fibre is now 300 meters as opposed to OM4 fibre is now 400 meters, both have been reduced from their previously longer distance compliance allowances.

  •  Copper – we are now the proud producers of our own cable, the first being a Cat6 U/UTP which we feel is becoming the ‘ industry standard’ for choice over the next 15 years. Our own Brand Cat6 U/UTP 'BridgeNet'  has been a long time coming with rigorous research into the most widely used applications at present and for the future. It is Low Smoke Zero Halogen to tick the safety box, and is tested to 500Mhz…..it has also been produced to allow for the ever widening marketplace of POE devices, such as WiFi, IP CCTV, VOIP, HDBase-T….to this end we have made sure that with a larger core diameter of 23AWG ( American wire gauge) it is very capable of carrying the current to the device without an excessive loss in power, therefore there is no strain on your POE switches. This means a switch that runs cooler, and uses less power. We’ve teamed it up with a couple of vendors modules and jacks to create an entry level system and a high performance system with above 250Mhz performance, useful when installing for AV use. Overall Diameter is 6.2mm

  •  Audio Visual – Most of you know that we have been installing projectors and interactive screen for many years, but did you know we have also been installing Residential ‘ home cinemas’ and whole house audio systems?     We currently install makes such as Arcam, Yamaha, Denon for high end audio / visual AV solutions, and have installed items such as in ceiling – in wall speakers, electric motorised screens – up to 4.6 mtrs, and JVC  projectors, with wall controls.   We are now seeing larger format TV’s coming down in price, so much so, that it is not beyond the wishes of most of us to look at 50'' and above TV screen to be ‘ fitted ‘ into a wall housing to keep all those cables hidden.
  •  PA – systems – We have installed  whole business – multizone PA systems in recent years for clients such as Royal Academy of Arts – Lycee Francias school alongside others
  • Digital display – We have installed many digital display screens over the years from the very basic ceiling mounted ‘ que number’ systems to more involved multiscreen systems for BMW showrooms
  •  EPOS – as past Compass group cabling installers we are very competent when it comes to Epos systems, and have worked up and down the country in fast moving outlets such as Burger King, Delice ‘de Francais, Upper Crust. And many more to out of hours working times and tight schedules for ‘ whole shop ‘ refurbishment fit-outs

We welcome all and any enquires with regard to any area above - on 020- 8423-5527

There is a small revolution taking place......when I started installing data cables back in the late 80's, coax and then cat3/4....eventually cat5 and above in the 90's there weren't many data cabling companies around that knew about 'structured wiring' it was a term from the US, and involved the use of the 4 pair UTP cable for use as either a phone or data point to link up to the mainframe using dumb terminals.  Centralised computing and centralised telephony.

The skills required were quite similar to those of an electrical engineer, and in-fact that is exactly what I trained as back then, and my brother used to say to me ' well a cable is a cable, so a sparks is the perfect person to install this' .

These days when we have nearly got to double figures in Cat cabling number terms and there is a greater need to understand just how to treat these cables, and indeed it is a bit of a science.

But I notice that there are many installers out there now......so it must still be as easy as pie to install and make a living at.

Lets look at the difference between apples and say......apples.

Contractor A

Has pulled cables in, so can pull any cable in
Has terminated cat5e so can terminate any cable
Will make the cables immaculately tidy in the comms room.
Has a 4 twinkly light tester, so can test cables and say ' there good to go'
Has been doing the same for years
Will take your money and you will be lucky to find him again

Contractor B

Has pulled many types of cable in, and knows the difference between strain relief/pulling loads of a data cable compared to other copper cables, and has been on many courses, and has the certification of each vendor to show this
Has terminated many types of cable including fusion splicing fibres as well as copper and will make a tidy job using cable sock to mitigate against alien cross talk between close proximity pairs
Has a fibre fusion splicer within calibration - usually £4k and above
Has a tester that can test and certify all types of copper up to and including Cat6A, and above as systems are ratified up 2000Mhz - usually £10k and above
Has also been installing data systems for years, and has test results, and database of warranty certificates
Will make sure that you are receiving ' value engineering' by sending engineers on regular training courses
Has engineers with CSCS card, Asbestos certificates, Ipaf, Pasma cards, are first aiders, and carry all PPE equipment.

I sometimes get asked to drop our prices, as the end client has been given a cheaper quote........wonder which apple the other quote came from?

So I say to you....not apples are the same my friends!

Do you remember, back in the day when there  was Cat5?
I'm talking about Cat5, not Cat5e.....and we would make the decision for the IT guy and the financial director that a move to Cat5e would be a good long term value for money move?
By my reckoning, if you can remember this, that would have been approx. 20 years ago......not bad value from us guys who specified those cables as a ' this should do you for  most scenarios' approach.

These days a cable has to do a whole lot more. It has to carry power over Ethernet for VOIP and WiFi, it has to be capable of performing up to HDBase-T for 4K AV, at the same time as high speed data transmission, 1Gbit, and 10Gbit*

So how many cable types should you buy for all these applications?

Well less than you may think actually.

POE devices love a fatter piece of copper to lessen voltage drop, so lets start with a 23awg gauge option.
How about a cable that can pass 10Gbase-T* testing to allow some headroom when using it for AV, so lets give it 500Mhz to play with.
What about those horrid acrid smoke tragedies we often hear about, so lets give it a Low Smoke Zero Halogen jacket the wear.
What level is this wonderful ' do it all cable' cat8?   ........no, cat7  ..........no, cat6A  .........no
A mere Cat6 U/UTP is capable of all this.

Ah ....I bet that stuff is a fortune?
No....absolutely not, it's been coming down in price for a while now, and is now the next ' we have done all the thinking for the IT guys' cable to install, that is likely to last as long as good old Cat5e did.

So here comes the sales pitch, you can go seek out these cables and match them with high end modules, jacks and fit them to suitable patching and faceplates, or.......you can let us supply you with our Brand as we have done all the matching for you.

'BridgeNet' cable
Cat6 - 23awg - 500Mhz - LSZH - Tested to TIA/ TSB155 10Gbit standards at lengths up to 55 mtrs*.
Matched to tool-less keystone high performance jacks
Matched to product researched - 24way keystone patch panels with discreet branding
Eurostyle and LJ6 style modules for outlet ends - no branding

We use this for our own installations as we believe that we can afford to give the client ' something for nothing' and that something is our experience of over thirty years in the industry, using all sorts of products, for all sorts of applications. Most clients just want to know it will work, when they plug in the end device........so that's what we aim to provide.

Currently, we are not a reseller of these products, but if we receive enough interest, we may look into doing just that, so please feel free to leave you feedback....it'd be very much taken seriously, and appreciated!
